Intro to Close Embrace
Description
In their Intro to Close Embrace class, Hugo and Celina teach you about one of the most vital positions in Argentine Tango.
This class is great for people who struggle with tango’s close embrace. Similarly, it’s excellent for those who wish to practice it more.
The Intro to Close Embrace class is a Beginner Level class.
Technique Segment
In the technique segment of the class, Hugo and Celina start you off with warm-up exercises to prepare you to dance the embrace. They start with shoulder rotations and then move to ankle rotations and disassociation exercises for the feet.
In addition to this series of exercises Hugo walks you through a demonstration of the technique for the tango embrace and properly doing the walk (caminata). At the same time, he discusses the need for good posture and proper arm placement for both leaders and followers. To illustrate the information, he has you take a series of small steps forward and backward to familiarize you with the movements.
Next, they teach you the proper technique for the close embrace and obtaining a good connection with your partner. Hugo then demonstrates proper posture and hand/arm positioning for both leaders and followers. It’s all about being comfortable. Hugo goes in-depth for the need for a solid frame and keeping the posture relaxed.
Once the technique has been taught, Hugo and Celina walk you through a coordinated walk exercise. They show the difference between the open embrace and the close embrace with lots of repetition of the movements.
Steps Segment
Hugo and Celina start the steps segment by demonstrating the box step in close embrace. This allows them to focus on the proper placement of the legs and feet. They demonstrate how to properly do it. Then they show how to do it milonga style, with several repetitions.
Finally, they incorporate change of weight and rebound into the box step they demonstrated to show you how to move around and use the whole dance floor. They also add in some embellishments for the leaders and followers for good measure.
