Close Embrace for Salon-Style
Description
In their Close Embrace for Salon-Style class, Hugo Patyn and Celina Rotundo teach advanced combinations and footwork for the close embrace. The focus is on keeping the dance compact for crowded milongas.
This is an advanced level class.
Technique Segment
First, Hugo and Celina start you off with warm-up exercises like shoulder and ankle rotations and disassociation exercises for the upper and lower body to prepare you to dance the close embrace for salon-style.
Next, they lead you through a series of rock-steps, first individually and then in the close embrace with your partner. Finally, they include rotations into the mix.
Steps Segment
To start the steps segment, Hugo and Celina, demonstrate the salon-style in close embrace and then break down the step in greater detail for you. Hugo breaks everything down for the leaders and similarly, Celina breaks everything down for the followers.
They incorporate a lot of repetitions and variations to reinforce the information.
More about Salon-Style
Salon-style is danced with a closed or open embrace. The leader and follower positions are typically offset, with each dancer’s center slightly to the side of their partner’s center. Their body positions form a V—with the woman’s left shoulder closer to the man’s right shoulder than her right shoulder is to his left shoulder. When danced in a close embrace, the couple will occasionally loosen their embrace slightly to allow for more complicated footwork and movements.
