DanceTangoTV Heads to Nora’s Tango Week
We are excited to announce that the DanceTangoTV team is headed to San Francisco to sponsor and attend one of the preeminent Tango Festivals in North America—Nora’s Tango Week. The festival, now in its 19th year, runs from June 29 through July 4 and is produced by Nora Olivera. Nora’s Tango Week is considered by many to be the first Argentine Tango Festival in the United States. We honestly couldn’t be more delighted to be involved.
With that said, this year’s festival features 12 classes a day, afternoon seminars, evening workshops, morning Chayumos, and nightly Milongas with exhibitions and live DJs. In addition to all of the events, some of the world’s best tango teachers will be there: Nito and Elba, German Ballejo and Magdalena Gutierrez (Mundial Champions 2017), Jonathan Saavedra and Clarisa Aragon (Mundial Champions 2015), Frederico Naveira and Sabrina Masso, and Hugo Patyn and Celina Rotundo—soon to be featured instructors on DanceTangoTV.
DanceTangoTV will have a booth at the festival where we will be talking about the site and giving demonstrations to interested dancers looking to further their tango education. It won’t all be work though; we will be attending the classes and events as well, and our very own tango maestro, Angel Prince, will be available for dances during the Milongas. If you see us, be sure to say, “hola” and find out how DanceTangoTV is changing the face of tango.
HISTORY OF NORA’S TANGO WEEK
The festival originated as the Stanford Tango Week in 1991. Nora and her late-husband Raul Dinzelbacher were the first Argentine Tango instructors at the festival. Nora became involved with the annual festival and eventually took over operations in 1997. Along with Bob Moretti, they renamed the event to Nora’s Tango Week, and the rest is history. It has since become one of the longest-running Tango festivals in the United States.
Over the years the festival has featured a long list of very impressive teachers. Maestros such as Pampa Cortes, Esther and Pablo Pugliese, Pablo Veron, Graciela Gonzalez, Ariadna Naveira and Fernando Sanchez, Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo, and Carolina del Rivero and Donato Juarez have all graced the dance floors at the festival.
